PhD in Management

Overview
Doctoral program aims at providing theoretical knowledge about specific areas of business management and train individuals who will carry out active research in this field. Lectures in finance, marketing, management and organization are supported with courses such as research methods and statistical and quantitative techniques. The program mainly consists of three phases: 8 courses (21 credits + Scientific Research, Ethics and Seminar course), then proficiency exam and finally doctoral thesis.

Goal
The main goal of the doctoral program is to provide students with a deep theoretical knowledge of business management and enable them to conduct academic research that contributes to identify and solve problems faced in business organizations. We aim at training specialized researchers who develop and diffuse knowledge and ideas while assuming responsibility in key academic and managerial positions worldwide.

Objectives
The program expects to graduate students who

- have solid theoretical background in finance, marketing or management and organization as well as other areas related to business environment,
- apprehend contemporary and advanced research techniques and are able to apply them
- follow recent developments in the field and incorporate these in their research
- contribute to the theoretical knowledge in their specialized area
- suggest novel and innovative solutions to the business problems
- are sensitive to social problems, respect ethical values, and assume social and professional responsibility.

Target Audience
The program accepts candidates who have an undergraduate or graduate degree in business, economic and administrative sciences, social sciences or engineering.

 

Admission Requirements
The following documents are needed for submission.

  • CV
  • Statement of purpose
  • A valid exam score in ALES-EA or ALES-SAY or GMAT or GRE
  • Undergraduate and graduate transcripts
  • A valid exam score showing English proficiency
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A formal thesis proposal
  • A pre-approval by a faculty member (highly recommended)
  • Any academic work (such as thesis, publication etc)

Program Outcomes

  • To develop expertise by integrating current and advanced level knowledge in the field of Management with new ideas and/or research; and construct original definitions that would bring innovation into the field; assess the interactions among the sub dimensions of Management field, such as finance, marketing, and management and organization, and find solutions by using this expertise through analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating new and complex knowledge. (ITU i, ii, v) 
  • To be able to evaluate new knowledge in the field of Management through a systematic approach; study an original topic, and to develop an innovative idea, method, design or application or to apply a conventional idea, method, design or application into a different field. (ITU iii, iv)
  • To gain advanced skills in using research methods necessary for studies in the field. (ITU vi)
  • To be competent in expanding the boundaries of the knowledge in the field through doing independent research and being able to publish at least one scientific journal article in peer reviewed journals. (ITU vii, viii)
  • To be competent in being a leader in situations where there is a need for finding solutions to interdisciplinary problems. (ITU ix)
  • To develop field-related innovative ideas and methods by making use of advanced intellectual processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem solving and decision making. (ITU x)
  • To be competent in defending his/her ideas on topics in the field of Management in national and international platforms and being competent in transferring his/her knowledge and experience to others in the field, and to those from other areas, in written, oral and visual forms. (ITU xii, xiii)
  • To contribute to the transformation of his/her society into information society by announcing and promoting the scientific, economic, technological, social and cultural advances in the field of Management and contributing to the solution of social, scientific, cultural and ethical problems, as well as extending these values, by using strategic decision making processes.
